How Do IContact a job seeker about a job opening I have - Employers who find a job seeker profile that may meet a current job opening, should write down the Job Seeker Id number for each profile of interest and contact one of the offices in the region where the job opening is. Note: This is general information about job seekers in the state system. Some job seekers may or may not meet all your qualification requirements or may not be interested in your job opening. Download the work graphics application - Go to the Download License tab, read and agree to the license and download the install files. Placing the WAR file in a Tomcat server's WEB-INF folder will allow the system to start automatically and sample pop-up and I-frames can be used to link or interface with the occupational selection field in your system. Find an office in a State region - From the home panel, click on the HELP above the pictures and click on the State map and then a region. From a regions job openings or job seeker profile page, click on the closest office link and a list of offices in that region will appear. Find out about a job listing - A job seeker should write down the job number and contact one of the offices in the region where the job is. Note: The jobs are listed for general information only. Each employer will have specific additional requirements which the job seeker must meet or exceed before the office will provide detailed job information to job seekers. Know which picture to select - Read the caption over each picture, leave the cursor on the picture and read the pop - up to get a general idea about the groups of occupations behind the picture. It's Ok to click a picture, read about the occupation and go back until you find what you are looking for. Navigate the system - Use your mouse to move the curser over the pictures or the name of the item to be selected. Save as text - Save as text will save a .txt file of the selected screen display to your desktop or location of your choice. The text file may be used for additional purposes such adding comments with a word processor or loaded to a form to use for other developmental purposes or as input to another system. Select a picture - Position the mouse pointer over the picture and click the left mouse button Selecting Your Job Title - Click here to link to more detailed information on how to select your job title. Start Over - Clicking the Start Over button takes you all the way back to the DWD O*NET home page. Use Text Search - If you type in a job title and press the SEARCH button, DWD O*NET will attempt to find the O*NET SOC code that matches the title or words you typed. Use the Back button or Back to Panel Button - Takes you from the screen you are currently on to the screen you just came from. Use the Horizontal scroll bar - When the information on a computer screen is wider than the screen display, this bar allows you to read to the left or right of your current position. Use the Vertical scroll bar - When the items listed or amount of information on a computer page are longer than what you can see on one page, positioning the mouse on the up and down selector bar, allows you to read up and down the page. Occupational CodesThe training, education, employment, personnel, and workforce development organizations have used various forms of classification systems for many years to describe jobs and job seekers, training and educational opportunities and industry occupations. These various forms were similar but did not provide the universal characteristics needed to meet all the affected organizations requirements. The problem of trying to cross-walk all these different systems is well documented and the inexact nature of them has resulted in a disservice to many of the affected organization's customers. The new O*NET Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system however does provide the universal capabilities needed by all organizations as well as provide a method by which new and emerging occupations can be included. Organizations that decide to use the SOC as a standard language to describe occupations and its standard numbering methodology to classify them, will see an improvement in their ability to communicate and use information from other service organizations, training providers, education institutions, job openings information, job seeker skills analysis, and labor market information. The Department of Workforce Development is dedicated to assisting in the adoption of the O*NET SOC system throughout the state. Work One Offices and Phones
About DWD Work GraphicsThe DWD Work Graphics system is based on Java Panel technology and attempts to simplify the occupational selection process using pictures of work and people working. The development effort was funded by a U.S. Department of Labor grant to the state through a project called Auto Coder. The DOL system is based on a typing and reading methodology and did not include the work graphics interface which is an Indiana design. The pictures represent as much as possible, the types of jobs within each occupational family that are most likely found in the state. Graphics provide a universal way of displaying occupations that is familiar and comfortable, reduces the reading requirement and improves the opportunities for making right choices quickly. Robert Odle (Gene) served as the project manager and senior systems analyst with the java programming effort primarily performed by Haverstick Consulting staff and included:

Please submit suggestions for improvements or corrections to Gene Odle LicenseThe DWD Work Graphics system is based on Java Panel technology and uses a MySQL database running on a Tomcat server. The distributable WAR file will work natively on that platform with porting capabilities to other platforms such as WebSphere. The use of the WAR file and the panel manager access content from the State's database and no content is included in the WAR file or panel manager. The license to use the WAR file version of the DWD Work Graphics technology is an open license requiring no payment of fees nor commitment by DWD beyond making available the current version of the WAR file for download.
